The Caregiver Science Lab has committed to raising $20,000 to fund our first collaborative research project addressing the financial and emotional needs of nurses who are also family caregivers. We need your support to make this happen! Please consider making a donation to support our project activities, or you can show your support by becoming an ambassador for the project on the tabs above this description. Thank you!
The Caregiver Science Lab (Dr. Carolyn Phillips and Dr. Megan Thomas Hebdon)
Who Are We?
Hello! We are Dr. Carolyn Phillips and Dr. Megan Thomas Hebdon. We are both researchers, nurses, family caregivers, and leaders of the Caregiver Science Lab. Dr. Phillips has research background and expertise in the use of storytelling through music to support nurses caring for people with cancer. Dr. Hebdon has research background and expertise in the needs of family caregivers--those who are friends, family, or neighbors of people with chronic illnesses. With our combined expertise, we believe we can make a difference for nurses who are carrying the dual role of being a caregiver in their job and a caregiver at home. We want to address their basic financial concerns and their emotional load.
What is Our Project About?
Nurses who are family caregivers have often been undervalued. Their dual role needs to be both acknowledged and actively supported. Nurses and family caregivers have experienced increased challenges with the pandemic, and we cannot wait to understand their financial and emotional needs and offer needed resources and support. Our project will seek to explore the experiences and financial/emotional need of these important caregivers through surveys and storytelling. Understanding the financial/emotional challenges and lived experience of nurses who are family caregivers will help us know how to better support them in their work and home lives. Our ultimate goal is to develop interventions for financial and emotional well-being in this unique and understudied population.
How Can You Help?
We are asking you to contribute to this important work. We have a goal of raising $20,000 to fund our project that will collect data from 100 nurses through surveys and/or interviews. Your contributions will go directly to fund recruitment of these nurses, gift cards to compensate the nurses for their time, data analysis of the surveys and interview, graduate and undergraduate health sciences students who are helping with the work, and activities to share our findings including conferences, publications, and community engagement. All donations are tax deductible. Thank you for your time and support!
Your contribution will help us find nurses who are playing the dual role of nurse and family caregiver.
Your contribution will help provide a gift card to thank nurses who are also family caregivers for their time and contributions to the study.
Your contribution will help us collect the data (get the numbers) to understand the challenges for nurses who are also family caregivers.
Your contribution will help us gather the important stories from nurses to help us understand the lived experience of being both a nurse and family caregiver.
Your contribution will help us bring the numbers and the stories together to provide a big picture view of the challenges and lived experiences for nurses who are family caregivers.
Your contribution will help fund the work and research development of future nurses.
Your contribution will help us spread the word about the challenges and lived experiences for nurses who are family caregivers. We will spread the word by sharing our findings through presentations, training events, conferences, and publications.
Your contribution would make our research possible on all levels.
