Who Are We?
Hi, everyone! We are the UT Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Club. We are a student sports club made up of members from all walks of life dedicated to helping each other get better at the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. UTBJJ is committed to providing a safe and comfortable environment for anyone and everyone, no matter if it's your first time trying BJJ or if you're a black belt. Through our regular practices, our hosted seminars, and our women's self-defense seminars, UTBJJ provides a gateway for members to help their community while bettering their skills.
Our Project
For the past decade, UT Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has provided a safe space for current and aspiring jiu-jitsu practitioners to train and refine their skills. Two years ago, we became an official RecSports organization, and yet, we still don't have a team uniform! Imagine our surprise when every university we competed at had their own custom rash guards, and we didn't. As we become a more professional organization, it becomes more and more important that we present ourselves as such. To this effect, we are raising money to create high-quality, custom rash guards for our members to wear at practices, competitions, and regular events. Not only will this foster a more communal spirit, but it will also present UTBJJ as a true sports team.
How Can You Help?
We have committed to raising $1,000 to make our goal of providing custom rash guards to our members possible. 100% of the funds raised from this fundraiser will go directly toward creating high-quality, custom rash guards for our members to wear at competitions and practices. All donations are also tax-deductible. If you love Jiu-Jitsu, if you love someone who does Jiu-Jitsu at UT, if you once called our club yours: please support us by donating now.
By donating $60, you can cover the expense of another member's rash guard! Help to sponsor your fellow members in financial need by covering their rash guards for a semester.
The first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Championship tournament was held in 1996 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. With the help of your donation, our members will receive quality competition uniforms. Maybe one day a Longhorn will compete in the World Championship and show off our amazing rash guards!
"Light Feather" is the name of the lightest female weight class in Jiu Jitsu, and consequently the lightest weight class in competitive BJJ (as per IBJJF). Competitors in this category must weigh a maximum of 118 pounds. Donations will cover rash guard expenses.
"Super Heavy" is the name of the second heaviest male weight class in Jiu-Jitsu, beat only by "Ultra Heavy", which does not have a weight limit. Consequently, Super Heavy is the heaviest capped weight class in competitive BJJ (as per IBJJF). Competitors in this category must weigh a maximum of 221 pounds. Donations will cover rash guard expenses.
In 1993, the first ever UFC Championship was held in Denver, CO. Winning every single one of his matches, Royce Gracie proved to everyone that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is one of the most effective, useful, and lethal martial arts in the world (and also that boxing with one glove was maybe a bad idea). Donations will cover rash guard expenses for the whole team!
