FOOD INSECURITY

"I was in a difficult situation in the semester of Fall 2022. I had no apartment because it was under construction which meant I had to stay at accommodations that would not have access to a kitchen meaning I wouldn't have proper nutrition. Nutrition is extremely important for students because it affects their academic life. SEF helped me out in order to be able to dine at the university's dining halls meaning I wouldn't go to class or bed hungry. It truly helped me when it came to my academics because I was able to concentrate better and not think about when the next time I was going to eat was."

FREEZING COLD

"On the coldest, snowiest day of the Texas year, my house lacked electricity and a heater. I can still clearly recall the day when I had on several outers and had borrowed a portable heater from a nearby church. I was able to get money to fix the electricity in my condo and got help from the school legal service about the duties of landlords in house repairs. Being resourceful and utilizing all the school's resources allowed me to feel more at ease and secure while I was a student at UT Austin."

HOUSING INSECURITY

"I was struggling severely with my mental and physical health. When I wasn't too depressed to go to school or work, I was likely too sick. I was running out of money and I couldn't pay my rent. Had I not received the financial aid when I needed it most, I either would have had to withdraw from the semester to work or I would have been evicted."
