Who We Are
The University of Texas Men's Lacrosse program was established in 1973 by Denny Bahm, Don Carnes, Bob Daigh and Kelly Anderson, who had a passion for the sport and a desire to continue playing it in college. The first game was played against Texas A&M in 1974, and since then the team has competed in every season.
We are not an NCAA sanctioned program. The Horns play in Division I of the MCLA, a lacrosse league comprised of the best club teams from around the country. Being a club sport means that we do not get funding from the university, and the players do not get accommodations that other students-athletes do. We have one of the most elite coaching staffs in the country, but the program is run by the players, who are in charge of budgeting, travel, scheduling, gear, social events, and all other day-to-day operations.
Last year, along with being our program's 50th anniversary, was our most successful campaign to date. The Horns went undefeated in the regular season, won the LSA conference championship (beat A&M), and won our first ever national playoff game. This year, the team is made up of 40+ student-athletes who have a deep love for representing the University of Texas and for the game of lacrosse. The returning players, with the help of some new faces, are hungry to build off the success of last year and continue the steep upward trajectory of this program. As our success progresses, the University of Texas men's lacrosse program will continue to attract top talent and draw support from fans and boosters. With an exceptional coaching staff and talented, dedicated players, the Longhorns have the potential to compete at the highest level and achieve tremendous success in 2024-2025 and beyond.
Where Will Your Contribution Go?
The Horns have a trip to South Carolina pending, with games lined up against #16 South Carolina and High Point in the beginning of April. These two games would be significant additions to the team's schedule, increasing the team's reputation with more high-level national competition. With our goal of continually expanding the program and diving deeper into national playoffs this year, an expansion to our travel schedule would be very impactful. However, the team can't get there without some significant help. The travel costs associated with a trip like this will exceed $20,000 for flights, hotels, buses, etc. We need your help!
The team relies exclusively on player dues, individual donations, and our devoted alumni to fund everything our program needs. This includes travel, league dues, equipment, team dinners, and coaching costs, among many others. With your support, we will also be able to more easily afford our day-to-day operations and travel expenses, which will allow for a more complete and rewarding experience for the players. Your contributions will also enable us to grow the program faster by travelling further to play tougher competition around the country.
Your Impact
To put it simply, this program would not exist without the generosity of its donors and the support of its alumni. As we look to build off of our progress last year, with national success on the horizon, we are asking for your continued support to be able to compete at the highest level. As lacrosse has expanded, the cost of competing as a collegiate club has steadily increased. As we continue to seek out the highest level of competition to continue building this program, the cost of operating the team grows year after year.
This year, with the addition of our trip to South Carolina, your donations will go directly to the team to cover a majority of the expenses associated with that travel. Additionally, your support will be used to enhance the experience of the players and continue to build the program into a national powerhouse. With your continued support of the Texas Men's Lacrosse program, we can come even closer to realizing our dream of bringing a national championship home to The University of Texas at Austin.
Help us pay for a pack of lacrosse balls for team practice.
Sponsor the expense of broadcasting home games and other media services to build the team's national image and brand.
Your donation will help fund team bonding experiences and social events for the boys.
With this contribution you are helping ensure our team has the gear necessary to look good, feel good, and play good.
Thanks to you, we are going to be able to eat a much-needed team meal before dominating our opponent at Caven or on the road.
Help the boys dominate their competition on the road and finance the team's stay in hotels in Virginia, South Carolina, and at LSA Championships in Dallas.
Your donation will help us cover the bus expenses in Virginia, South Carolina, and for road games around Texas.
You're the reason this program continues to thrive and expand. Thanks to your generosity we will be able to afford plane tickets to South Carolina, as well as cover other operating expenses throughout the year.
