What Is Texas Taekwondo?
Texas Taekwondo is the largest RecSports and martial arts club at The University of Texas at Austin, specializing in WT or Kukkiwon Taekwondo. The club embodies the Korean martial art of Taekwondo, which translates to "the way of kicking and punching." This concept forms the foundation of our club, represented through two main disciplines: Poomsae, a series of patterned forms that capture the essence of Taekwondo, and Olympic-style sparring, also known as Kyorugi.
Our club welcomes a diverse range of members, from complete beginners to USA national team athletes. We take pride in supporting the individual journeys of all our members, regardless of their experience level. Texas Taekwondo emphasizes community and fosters an inclusive environment that encourages each member to reach their full potential, while collectively striving to elevate the club to new heights.
Our Origin!
Founded in 1997, Texas Taekwondo has experienced remarkable growth, now boasting over 250 members and becoming the largest RecSports and martial arts club at The University of Texas at Austin—a significant evolution from its modest beginnings.
Thanks to our nationally recognized coaching staff, our collegiate program has enabled athletes to compete at state, national, and international levels, consistently delivering outstanding performances.
Texas Taekwondo has secured five consecutive national championships, with more surely on the horizon, exemplifying the club's commitment to excellence.
How You Can Help Us!
As our program continues to grow, so do our expenses. Your contributions are the driving force behind our ability to operate at such a high level, bringing honor and pride to UT. Donations help us cover the costs of essential training equipment, athlete gear, and invaluable training opportunities that foster our athletes' growth.
Most importantly, your support enables us to send as many athletes as possible to the National Collegiate Taekwondo Championships each spring. Your donations will help subsidize travel, accommodations, and tournament fees, allowing us to compete at the highest level.
