Support the TBS Beta Gamma Endowed Scholarship!

About Our Sisterhood

Tau Beta Sigma is a national honorary band sorority dedicated to serving college band programs. UT’s Beta Gamma Chapter received its charter in 1957 and has served the Longhorn Band ever since. With 72 Active members, we are one of the largest Chapters in the nation.

Sisters of Beta Gamma are brought together by our mutual appreciation for music, service, and sisterhood. Both within the Longhorn Band and in the outside community, our Chapter works to provide service that embodies these and other values of TBS. Our Chapter’s philanthropy efforts benefit the Make-a-Wish Foundation and Eastside Memorial High School in Austin, Texas. Some of our fundraising events, such as "Phlapjacks for Philanthropy," are geared specifically toward raising money for these efforts. Outside of our chosen philanthropies, we provide service to the band and to our community. Our service to the band includes providing meals during band week to the 400 member Longhorn Band, carrying medkits to all games and rehearsals, and providing water for all members during games.  Our Chapter also serves the greater Austin community through external service events such as Mobile Loaves and Fishes, where we help provide food for the homeless, events with St. David’s Medical Center, “Adopt-a-Schools,” where our chapter joins the band members of local high schools at their football games, and many others.

About Our Endowment

In the fall of 2017, our Chapter signed an endowment agreement as the first step in establishing The Beta Gamma Chapter of Tau Beta Sigma Endowed Scholarship, which will provide scholarships to undergraduate students in good standing who are in our Chapter of TBS. Starting in the fall of 2017, our Chapter will raise the necessary $25,000 over five years to create this endowment and support our future sisters!

This scholarship will give equal opportunity for participation to all of our sisters and allow them to experience every part of Longhorn Band and Tau Beta Sigma without having to worry about the associated financial commitment. In addition, our hope is that by supporting members of TBS, donors and participants in our fundraising efforts will also be supporting their community through the work our growing Chapter does and will continue to do, creating more opportunities for people to give in ways that are important to them.

The Beta Gamma Chapter is eager and excited to put our name on something that will benefit the University and the future members of our organization forever! Please consider donating to help us support the future of this wonderful organization!

FAQ

What is an endowment? Endowments are a sound investment in a better future. With an endowed gift, you provide permanent support for the University. Your gift is invested — never spent — and each year a distribution, like dividends on a mutual fund account, is made to your chosen program or area. Investment earnings above the dividend rate help the endowment value grow over time, to keep pace with inflation and maintain your endowment’s spending power.

$1,957

Music

In 1957, seventeen female members of UT's Longhorn Band started the Beta Gamma Chapter of Tau Beta Sigma. Since then, we've grown to become one of the largest Chapters in the nation. We reconnect with these founding members each year at alumni band day!

$5,000

Philanthropy

A $5,000 donation to this project is representative of the $5,000 our Chapter raises and donates to the Make-A-Wish Foundation each year. This contribution will complete our endowment goal for the year and allow us to focus the rest of our efforts on increasing the philanthropy work we do for the community!
