For Texas You Will: Women's Empowerment Scholarship
“Where flowers bloom, so does hope.”
- Lady Bird Johnson, Tap Class of 1933
Founded in 1923, Texas Orange Jackets is the oldest women’s service organization at the University of Texas at Austin. We strive to serve our university and the Austin community while upholding our core tenets of scholarship, leadership, and service. Our motto, "For Texas We Will," is our call to action, and it fuels our actions and intentions in everything we do. Each year, the new class of Orange Jackets takes on a Tap Project in order to improve our community or raise awareness for an issue that is salient in our society. Examples of past Tap Projects include:
- Advocating for the installation of the Barbara Jordan statue, which emphasized the valuable role that women have played in shaping the University of Texas.
- Founding the FoodSecureUT food insecurity fund to support students who do not know where their next meal will come from.
- Installing emergency call boxes on campus to promote a safe learning environment for all.
- Creating Parents Weekend to acknowledge the importance that parents play in Longhorns’ lives.
The 2018 Tap Project: For Texas You Will
One of the biggest barriers that prevents students from attending UT is the ability to afford tuition. Every year, many brilliant students forgo a college education because of financial barriers. Our 2018 Tap Project is the establishment of the For Texas You Will: Texas Orange Jackets Women's Empowerment Scholarship. This scholarship endowment is our way of taking steps to eliminate barriers to education.
Who will be a recipient of this scholarship?
This scholarship will be awarded to a self-identifying woman with financial need. The recipient's accomplishments will highlight the tenets that Texas Orange Jackets upholds: scholarship, leadership, and service. The recipient will be an exceptional, resilient leader that has thrived in their environment regardless of circumstance.
We need your help!
This scholarship will act as a foundation for the transformative goals that our recipients will accomplish. Economic status should never hinder someone from success, and by donating to this scholarship, you will be a part of a network of donors that believes in empowering and supporting the blazing aspirations of service-minded women. Our hope is that this scholarship will allow resilient incoming freshmen the opportunity to use their education to improve this university and community with their diverse perspectives and tenacity. In order to create an endowed scholarship, Texas Exes requires us to raise $50,000. We intend to work until this goal is reached.
We want you to be a part of this moment in history. For Texas You Will!
